| Adlerian Psychology is centered on a holistic approach that views the individual as moving through life in a unique and self-determined way. Every person has a subjective perception of their personal reality that determines how we perceive experiences. We look for the patterns of thought and action, the purpose of goal-directed behavior and the adaptation to the social environment to understand the individual’s lifestyle. As each individual actively decides how they will interact in each situation, there is hope for change. The role of the therapist is to assist the client in understanding how their choices affect their lives, rather than advising about decision-making. The responsibility for those choices belongs exclusively to the client. Adlerian Psychology is founded in mutual respect and encouragement, working collaboratively with the client to discover their strengths, incorporate new thinking and find the courage to be imperfect. Primary therapeutic techniques may include Adlerian, Structural, Strategic, Cognitive/Behavioral and Psychoeducation, among others. |

| Each of us has a unique "window to the world" that we use to decide what to pay attention to, how we will respond and what might happen in the future. Our family of origin, our roles in those relationships and interactions with others help determine what we will do with these experiences throughout life. This allows us to choose how we will think, feel and behave in every situation. To really understand each other, it is important to look at the whole person within their social environment to give depth and meaning to who we are and our goals in life. Because we have the ability to choose what we will do, we each have the power to make a change. The journey toward change begins with mutual collaboration about the direction of the desired goals. By exploring the "window to the world" and the patterns of how one thinks, feels and behaves, the purpose and use of life choices can be understood. Momentum develops as new tools and skills are discovered to move confidently toward the goal. Innovation results from individual strategies that provide courage and hope for change. |
